Busy.. but loving it

Indeed..

Very busy but absolutely loving it. I'v recently been reviewing music gigs and theatre for the radio show. I'v been reviewing Hurricane, Duke Special, Nathaniel Ratecliff, Napoleon and a very special review of Belfast's newest, coolest Friday night club; La Chic @ 21 Social.

Hurricane @ Grand Opera House

Nine years after its first performance in the Old Museum Arts Centre, Hurricane flew back onto the Belfast theatre scene with high expectations and rumours of a rewrite and different ending after Higgins passing. All rumours were soon put to rest and Richard Dormer and Rachel O'Riordan jumped back into the saddle and delivered a fantastically real life portrayal of Higgins through the good times and the bad.
Dormer captures all that Higgins was and much much more! He never drops his guard and inhabits Higgins, eventhrough a drunken heckler in the first few minutes of the play. After the charisma and the charm through Higgins rise to the top, then comes his addiction to booze, fags and gambling, his arm wrestling Oliver Reed and his dramatic fall from grace.
Possibly the best theatre I'v ever seen, I fell in love with Higgins and reinforced my belief that Richard Dormer is without doubt the best theatre actor Northern Ireland has. An absolute privilege to be at Hurricane on the opening night and a big thanks go to all the team at the GOH, especially Paul Coleman.

Duke Special @ Oh YEAH!

(longer review available on QR Show) - Quirky, beautiful, poetic and very very personal gig. A lovely space with equally lovely music. Big shout to the amazing Ria Flom who hooked me up with some tickets. The gig was in aid of Depaul Ireland who do some fantastic work in Belfast and all around Ireland - check them out online @ www.depaulireland.org :)

Communion Belfast @ Black Box

One word sums this gig up - Perfect! From the unique, cosy atmosphere of Belfast's Black Box to the delightful music by local boys Napoleon - the night was a complete success. The highlight of the entire night was the dulcet tones of Mr Nathaniel Ratecliff. This guy can really sing! Voice like velvet and thoughtful lyrics just made American born Ratecliff stand out from the crowd on Friday night.
Check out an interview with Nathaniel, Graham Brown & David from Napoleon on QR! Very funny listening!

La Chic @ 21 Social

What a night - big up to Steven Simpson who launched the very special La Chic @ 21 Social on Friday night. A fantastic night had by all and the complimentary Mojitos just made it a little better ;)
Check it out every Friday night at 21 Social in Belfast's Cathedral Quarter!

Youcef Photography

WOW! This guy is an absolute pro behind a camera. We had a lot of fun in the studio for a few hours and the guy is an absolute legend to work with! With fantastic results and a very relaxed atmosphere I'd recommend him to any actors who are looking headshot's or anybody who's reading this who want some PR photos! This guy is your man!

Lyric Theatre Launch @ Belfast City Hall

The Lyric Theatre launched their brand new programme of events when their new theatre opens on the 1st May 2011. Kicking off is Arthur Miller's Crucible, following that is a wide range of theatre including Martin Lynch's Dockers, The Painkiller with Kenneth Branagh and Rob Brydon and many many more! For booking and all info check it out online @ www.lyrictheatre.co.uk

Something New and Something Different

This is my new years resolution - MY BLOG!
(so here goes..)

2010 has gone and 2011 has arrived. 2010 for me has been a huge complicated yet enjoyable journey of discovery in every aspect of life. I moved to Belfast permanently and began to work with theatre companies including Kabosh, Tinderbox, Red Lemon and The Lyric.
It's down to amazing individuals that invested their time and their faith in me that I have had such a fantastic year! From making tea, to rigging lights, acting to a sold out audience and acting in my boxers on a boat - it has been all so enjoyable.
I hope you all know who you are ... A BIG thanks from me!

But this is 2011 - and I'm going to make this my year!
This blog marks a change for me... something new and something different.
I'm currently studying at Queens in Belfast, i'm enjoying parts of the course.. at times I find it doesn't challenge me enough and some of the my classmates have little or no interest in drama at all. Therefore it's either time for a whole new change or make the most of what is there. I will be auditioning to a few drama schools this year and hope to pursue more acting work in Belfast. I want 2011 to be a year were I constantly challenge myself and enjoy all the opportunities i'm given.

Before I rant anymore I want to thank everybody who made 2010 awesome and I hope we do it again in 2011.

Finally ...

Happy New Year!
